What do you think you're supposed to learn in this lifetime?

Posted on Feb 10th, 2009 by Christina : Questioner Christina
This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for February 10, 2009:

According to the immortal Ralph Waldo Emerson, "Life is a succession of lessons which must be lived to be understood."  Through having seven siblings, I learned flexibility and tolerance.  Through music, I learned about discipline and beauty...and how to communicate personally with others.  As a byproduct of having an abusive husband, I learned that nothing is worth the compromise of one's true self.  I have learned that I should strive to have no regrets; as long as I take to heart the sometimes-harsh lessons that life sends my way and use them to mold my character in a positive way.

What music has made the biggest difference in your life?

Posted on Feb 10th, 2009 by Christina : Questioner Christina
This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for February 04, 2009:

When one hears the phrase "classical music," a visual image of portly gentlemen in powdered wigs is conjured.  However, classical music is not just mathematical and "boring" in nature.  I remember when I first heard Aaron Copland's "Appalachian Spring."  I was fourteen years old, and the first few notes captivated me
and enthralled, I listened to the music's story of a mountain sunrise...a thunderstorm...playful animals...a mountain sunset.  I realized at that moment the power of music; emotion, power, passion, impressionism.  Music truly is another language...the universal language.

What do you most need to learn?

Posted on Feb 10th, 2009 by Christina : Questioner Christina
This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for February 09, 2009:

I have a problem.  I am a control freak with an OCD tendancy to alphabetize everything in my path.  While this makes me an ideal library volunteer, it does create the potential for ulcers.  The reason for this is that I stress about the things that I have absolutely no control over whatsoever.  If I can control it, I don't worry about it..  Having recognized this problem, I can be on the road to recovery.  The thing I most need to learn is to let go...just to let go.  To realize that there is Someone bigger than me, who sees beyond the boundaries of time and space and to let Him take the metaphorical reins.

What has been a recurring theme over the past few months?

Posted on Feb 12th, 2009 by Christina : Questioner Christina
This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for February 12, 2009:

My recurring theme has been "Hurry up and wait."  As I am not the most patient girl in the world, this tends to be grounds for much angst on my part.  However, as my father used to tell me when I was little, "Life's tough...get a helmet.  At least you have something to write about!"  I've grown to appreciate this over time, and maybe eventually, my patience will increase.  Until then...

What would you pick as your word for the week?

Posted on Feb 17th, 2009 by Christina : Questioner Christina
This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for February 17, 2009:

Perseverance. To echo the theme of Disney's "Meet the Robinsons," I am striving to keep moving forward and have learned that I learn more from "failure" than I do from instantaneous success.

Where is your favorite place to hide?

Posted on Feb 23rd, 2009 by Christina : Questioner Christina
This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for February 22, 2009:

When I was five, I would have said that my favorite place to hide was under my bed. Now, it's books. Through books I can esape to Narnia...England...the Caribbean...and I could go on and on.  I've traveled under the sea, through the looking glass, with the Swiss Family Robinson.  I've fallen in love with Mr. Darcy, and recognize Anne of Green Gables as a kindred spirit.  Books have been my friends...my vacations.

What type of weather are you wishing for today?

Posted on Feb 25th, 2009 by Christina : Questioner Christina
This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for February 25, 2009:

I always wish for sunshine.  I can wake up on the wrong side of the bed, my hair won't do what I want, and my dog can have gotten sick all over the kitchen floor, but if I have the sun, my case of the grumpies goes away.  I have the sun today...and it's beautiful!
